Miss Jenna

Piano / Voice / Guitar

Music has always been at the center of Jenna’s life. She began piano lessons at age 6, was in her first musical at age 9, began playing saxophone at age 11, has sung in and accompanied choirs and worship teams since age 13, and taught her first music lesson at age 17. Jenna earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Vocal Music Education from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. She also holds a Kodály Certification, a philosophy and sequence of teaching music literacy that focuses on using folk songs, joyful singing, and play. She is thrilled to be joining such a positive music school that emphasizes teacher strengths to best serve students.

Jenna has a diverse background of teaching music. She has given private lessons to students ages 5-72 and has taught students of all abilities throughout her career as an elementary music teacher and middle school choir director in public schools. Jenna is excited to use the skills and teaching strategies she has learned over the years to instruct students one on one to reach their maximum potential. After teaching in Missouri and Ohio, she is ready to add sunny Florida to the list!

Singing has taken Jenna all over the world, including performing with groups in Carnegie Hall, Colorado, South Africa, Disney World, the World Choir Games in Cincinnati, Ohio, and most recently Hungary. She completed a year of study at the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét, Hungary where she made friends from fourteen countries, sang in three choirs, and was highly trained in solfége and aural skills. One of her favorite memories was performing in a chamber group with a vocalist from Singapore and a pianist from Ireland, under the direction of her instructor from Hungary, singing pieces in Russian. Music truly is the universal language.

Jenna loves all kinds of music and believes that you can learn music through all genres. In the past few years she has attended performances including Adele, the Bach Festival in Leipzig, Kansas City Latin Orchestra, Harry Potter live in concert, John Fogerty, King’s Singers, Garth Brooks, an Easter Choral service at Westminster Abbey, and Six the Musical.

In her free time, Jenna enjoys spending time with her husband Mitch and their dog/co-pilot Maverick, reading, taking yoga and zumba classes, playing board games, and is currently learning to play the hammered dulcimer.
